9TH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ENERGY FROM BIOMASS AND WASTE
HOTEL MONACO & GRAND CANAL, VENICE (IT) / 21-23 NOVEMBER 2022

Presentation

Following the success of the 8th edition held online in 2020 (with 230 delegates from 38 different countries despite the pandemic), we are pleased to announce VENICE 2022 – 9TH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ENERGY FROM BIOMASS AND WASTE, to be held in person from 21st to 23rd November 2022 in Venice, Italy.

The Symposium, organised biennially by the International Waste Working Group (IWWG) since 2006, represents one of the leading scientific conferences in the field, and the first to extend the concept of Waste to Energy to include any form of alternative energy originated from waste and biomass.

The production of energy from alternative sources and its impact on climate change are among the main strategic tools implicated in the sustainable development of society, particularly in this period where geopolitics and dependence on energy have become such an important issue.
Numerous types of biomass and wastes contribute towards the production of energy and reduction in the use of fossil fuels by means of biological, chemical and thermal processes. Existing biomass and waste to energy technologies are currently undergoing rapid development. Despite growing interest in use of these technologies however, implementation in many countries remains limited.
The aim of the Venice Symposium is to focus on advances made in the application of technologies for energy recovery from biomass and waste and to encourage discussion in these fields.

The Symposium relies on the scientific support of the Universities of Hamburg (DE), Padova (IT), Queensland (AU), Rostock (DE), Tongji (CN) and Zhejiang (CN).

The 2022 edition will take place in a prestigious new venue, Palazzo Dandolo, incorporated in the first-class Hotel Monaco & Grand Canal, just a few steps away from Piazza San Marco. Palazzo Dandolo was first established in 1638 as a public “Ridotto”, a place where Venetians retired for the purpose of gambling, parties, entertainment, representing the first “casino” in the world. Giacomo Casanova was one of their renowned guests.
